The
towns of Jakar and Chamkhar comprise the main urban settlement within the
valley and have expanded in recent years to form a single settlement (see
Fig. 4). Chamkhar town is located at the bridging point of Chamkhar Chhu,
on the main east-west highway between Trongsa and Mongar. The town's role
as a service center is readily apparent by the large number of shops that
have developed in recent years. Moreover, a number of workshops, handicraft
centers, and hotels have established which confirm that the town's function
as a service and tourist center is promising.
