Scope for Future Extension of the Town area and Urban Design Option

The proposed town area has a good scope for future expansion as the terrain in the peripheral area of the town is also relatively flat (see Fig. 14). For the second phase of the township a total of 93 acres of land would be available for development, preferably through the process of land pooling. The service center for auto workshop can be accommodated within the existing area at Batpalathang, while huge industries, such as sawmills, and other industries can be accommodated in Garpangthang. A survey of these two areas is yet to be done. In the future, a motorable bridge across the Chamkhar Chhu near Dekiling would open up the areas of Kuenchosum, Tamshing, Pemasambhawa, and Dorjibi for residential development.

Urban Design Option

Owing to the relatively flat terrain with the possibility of providing wide straight roads with ample space for both pedestrians and vehicles a modular plan (see Fig.15) consisting of 8 plots per block was presented to the National Consultative Committee for Human Settlements and received the Committee's approval.
