Present Situation

Bird's eye view of Paro Town

Paro is about 60 kms. from Thimphu. Paro is connected to Haa via Chela Laa and from Bitikha. Before this connection Paro has been a dead end town. Unlike other dead end towns viz. Trashiyangtse, Lhuentse etc. Paro is commercially active. Paro has the only International Airport which is connected to Delhi, Kolkata, Dhaka, Rangoon and Bangkok which has a huge contribution/attraction to tourist's activities. The only airlink to Bhutan from Paro has an added advantage and it is developing as a main commercial town. In addition to this there are several public institutions already set up to tone the settlement such as the District Hospital, National Education Institute, Druk Seed, Wang Water Shed, Higher Secondary School, Middle Secondary School, number of Primary Schools, National Museum, and the Historical Monuments.
